The Power Of Music

It's been a very exciting few weeks here at
How To License Your Music.com
/ Renegade Music headquarters. A couple weeks ago I got word that one of the artists I represent at
Renagade Music Marketing
had several songs placed in two different MTV shows, then later the very same day I got another email about a different artist who was placed in a TV show called "Descending". This week I was notified that How To License Your
will be featured in the current Berklee Alumni newsletter. All very exciting stuff!
I'm approaching nearly four years now of running this newsletter and site. My products and services have
artists get their music on stations like MTV, VH1, Spike TV, Fuse TV, Oxygen Network and more. Artists I've worked with have had placements in a broad range of projects both here in the US and internationally.
It hasn't always been easy keeping this site afloat. I've had some times where I've really struggled to keep going. I've more than once thought about going back to getting a "regular job". Thank god I never gave into those thoughts!
I've kept this site going because I believe in my mission, which to put it simply, is to empower independent musicians to figure out how to make a living with their music.
I've been very lucky in my life in many ways, I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Berklee College of Music where I honed my songwriting and guitar playing skills. I was able to get a world class education that I've never taken for granted.
But I realize that not everyone has the means or ability to be able to attend a school like Berklee. I'm still paying off my student loans fiteen years later! This site is all about giving you practicial and accesible information that you can use to move your music career forward, one step at a time.
I've been so inspired by the musicians I've been working with lately. I'm working on a new series of "master classes" with different musicians who specialize in different niches within the licensing industry. I've worked with a musician who specializes in
making money with stock music
, a producer who has
helped artists license their music in a variety of projects,
and I'm currently finishing a course with an indie musician who makes a living scoring indie and feature films. The one thing all these musicians have in common, is that they're figuring out how to make a living with their music. None of them are household names, yet, but they're all doing what they love to do and earning enough money to keep doing what they love to do.
And that's what I want to teach you. How to do what you love to do and make enough money so that you can keep doing it. The world needs music and the world needs artists. As I'm sure you've all noticed, we live in what at times is a crazy, mixed up world. But music, thank God, is alive and well. When I play shows (which I've been doing a lot lately) and look out at all the people smiling and enjoying themselves, I'm reminded of just how important music is. It has the power to help people forget about all the craziness and just be, in the moment. It's truly a beautiful thing, as I'm sure most of you reading this can relate to.
I remember a conversation I had with my Mom when I was about fifteen. My mom is a doctor and we were having a conversation about what I was "going to do" when I grew up. My mom said something to the effect of "are you sure you don't want to be something like a doctor so you can make a stable income". I've never forgotten my response, nor has my Mom. I said "Mom, you help people stay alive. Musicians give people a reason to live". More than twenty years later, I still believe music is that powerful, and that important.
