How To Properly Meta Tag Your Tracks So They Get Found And Licensed

During the course I recently created on how to license your music with stock music libraries with a fellow Berklee College Of Music Alum and stock music expert, Aaron Saloman, Aaron revealed a wealth of information on how to increase the revenue you earn through stock music libraries.  Some of the information Aaron revealed seems so intuitive in retrospect, that I had several "Duh, why didn't I think of that moments?!".  But yet I hadn't, and chances are most of this information is going to be new to you as well.

Aaron makes a really nice income stream from this one facet of licensing alone and during our course, Aaron reveals exactly all the different tricks and techniques he's learned over the course of the last five years making money from this niche.  During the 100 minute course, we go really deep into the topic of stock music and cover everything you need to know related to producing and selling stock music.  I found myself getting more and more excited as the course went on and have personally implemented several things I learned during the course already.

One of the many things Aaron covered was the topic of how to properly "meta tag" your tracks so that the tracks you upload to the libraries you work with will actually be found and licensed.  It's not enough to just upload your tracks and hope someone will stumble across them.  The tracks need to be "meta tagged" in a way that will make it as easy as possible for supervisors and end users to find your tracks that are a good fit for what they're looking for.

One of the many things Aaron suggests you do in relation to tagging your tracks is to use a thesaurus when coming up with adjectives to describe your tracks.  So for example, instead of just saying a song is a "sad song about breaking up", you could say the song is a "somber, despondent, glum, melancholic, sorrowful song about the pain and misery of breaking up with someone you love". 

In other words, the more descriptive the better.  I'll be perfectly honest, I make a nice little part time income stream from stock music libraries, but I never thought of this and I never thought of a lot of the things Aaron teaches about how to make more money from stock music libraries.  Which explains how Aaron is able to make so much more money than me from this niche!
